In Southern Sudan, there are three states whose names have a reference to the equator: Central Equatoria, Western Equatoria and Eastern Equatoria.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo there is a province called Équateur. It is located in the northwest of the country and its capital is Mbandaka with more than one million inhabitants.

A special ritual in connection with the equator is the so-called line-crossing ceremony. Here, a ritual was performed with sailors who crossed the equator for the first time. That this was not necessarily as funny as it might sound, you can imagine.
